Victorian Curriculum outcome : Apply the distributive law to the expansion of algebraic expressions, including binomials, and collect like terms where appropriate
Task description : Students solve the doughnut puzzle by creating four four-domino doughnuts where the meeting ends are equivalent. Students prove each match using the distributive law through representing the expressions as rectangular areas (see the video). They also show the match using conventional algebraic manipulation.
