Victorian Curriculum outcome : Investigate everyday situations that use integers. Locate and represent these numbers on a number line.
Task description : Students use a number line that includes positive and negative numbers to tell a story that includes both sets of integers. There should be ten points on their number line that correspond to a positive or negative number, and each point should show the associated positive or negative number.
Assessment options : Photograph of poster; digital image.
Teacher notes : Some ideas for real life contexts that use positive and negative numbers include: temperature; money; height above or below sea level; and historical dates using AD and BC.
